Technical School Library Is Tribute To Carrollton Catholic

By Gretchen Keiser

The Roger J. Schoerner Technical Library at the Carroll Technical Institute in Carrollton was dedicated Feb. 10 by Monsignor Michael Regan.

The late Roger Schoerner was an executive with Southwire Company and a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Carrollton. Schoerner family contributions to the Carroll Technical Institute Foundation in memory of Roger Schoerner made the library’s establishment possible. Mr. Schoerner died in 1989.

Monsignor Regan, pastor of the Carrollton parish, offered the invocation at the ceremony and, using a modification of dedicatory prayer in the Roman Ritual, blessed the facility.

Open to students, faculty and the public, the library houses over 20,000 items including books, technical and general information journals, and personal artifacts which belonged to Mr. Schoerner. Schoerner was instrumental in locating the technical school in Carrollton. The institute observes its 25th anniversary this year.

Present at the dedication were Schoerner’s widow, Elaine his son, David, and granddaughters, Adrienne McWhorter and Mary Schoerner. Also present were Dr. Judy Hulsey, president of the institute, and Jim Collins, foundation member.
