| Father Thomas J. McAnoy, pastor of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish in
Detroit, died Nov. 30 after a long illness. He was the brother of Sister
Margaret McAnoy, IHM, director of the Cursillo in the archdiocese of Atlanta.
Father McAnoy, 63, suffered a stroke in September and had been hospitalized
for two months. He was recently moved to Mercy Bellbrook, a nursing home
operated by the Sisters of Mercy in Rochester, Michigan. A diabetic, Father
McAnoy had earlier had both legs amputated.
He served as pastor of Our Lady of the Rosary parish in downtown Detroit
since 1978. Before his appointment as pastor, Father McAnoy was principal at
St. Martin de Porres High School and Bishop Borgess High School in Detroit and
Port Huron Catholic High School. Father McAnoy was ordained for the archdiocese
of Detroit June 5, 1954.
The funeral Liturgy was celebrated Dec. 3 by Archbishop Adam J. Maida, of
Detroit. Seminary classmates concelebrated and Father Robert Morand was
homilist. Bishop Thomas J. Gumbleton presided at the Scripture service on Dec.
2.
Along with Sister Margaret McAnoy, two other sisters survive: Sister JoAnn
McAnoy, IHM, and Jane. Nieces, a nephew and three grandnephews also survive.
