Marist Breaks Ground For Added Facilities

Marist School held ceremonial groundbreaking activities on May 13 for new additions to its facilities on the school's campus, 3790 Ashford Dunwoody Road in Atlanta. Over 350 alumni, parents, parents of alumni and friends of Marist joined the celebration.

During the past year Marist has been conducting a $5.2 million capital campaign which will finance the construction of two academic buildings, a fine arts expansion, the renovation of the existing facilities and growth in the endowment. To date $4.9 million has been raised by parents, alumni, alumni parents, and foundations.

The new 35,000-square-foot building will house a library twice the size of the existing library, three computer laboratories, several classrooms, departmental offices and an elevator which will make Marist handicapped accessible.

Facilities for an enlarged, acoustically designed band room and a choral room will also be built.

In addition to the new buildings, renovations are planned for other areas. Facilities for the visual arts will be expanded, with a ceramics studio, art classroom and art offices to be located in what is now the library. Campus ministry offices will be renovated and the science department will gain two additional science labs. The cafeteria will also be improved and enlarged. Finally, $1 million will be added to the school's $2.5 million endowment to support student financial assistance and faculty enrichment.

Established in 1901, Marist is a private, Catholic, college preparatory day school for boys and girls in grades seven through 12 with an enrollment of 945 students.
