Storm Bypasses St. Theresa's

By Paula Day

When a tornado hit Douglasville in Douglas County on Good Friday, St. Theresa's Church came through unscathed. There was some damage to the parishioners' property. No electricity was an inconvenience during the afternoon Good Friday service but was back on line in time for the evening services and the rest of Easter.

"But I did get phone calls from friends and former parishioners," commented Father Ed O'Connor. People from Gainesville, considered "tornado alley," called to check on their former pastor. "A cousin called from California to see if I was okay," the priest said. "Former parishioners in Ohio read in their paper about the terrible damage and called. It was all kind of nice."

The tornado's path was clearly defined, according to Father O'Connor. Homes and businesses within 500 yards on both sides of its devastation were untouched.

As of the morning of April 1 no damage to property belonging to the archdiocese had been reported in Cobb County.
