Father Paul Flood Ordained

Vocations

Father Paul Flood was ordained a priest for the archdiocese of Atlanta June 10 at All Hallows seminary chapel in Dublin.

The ordaining bishop was Bishop Gerry Coffee of the Diocese of Sale, Australia, an alumnus of All Hallows. Also taking part were Atlanta priests Father Terry Kane, Father Leo Herbert, Father John Kieran, Father Hugh Byron and Father Tom Kenny, who was celebrating his 25th jubilee.

Father Flood will be assigned to Corpus Christi parish in Stone Mountain as parochial vicar beginning August 1.

Parishioners from St. Thomas More parish, Decatur, and from Holy Spirit parish, Atlanta, where he had served while studying for the priesthood, went to Dublin for the ordination.

Gerard O'Connor, master of ceremonies for Archbishop Eugene A. Marine, SSJ, who also attended the Mass, said that at the traditional dinner afterward in the refectory, Father Flood was greeted with a standing ovation when he entered and later led the gathering in singing the alma mater.

Silver and golden jubilarians, including Father Kenny, were also recognized and held a separate celebration at All Hallows.

A parish celebration for Father Flood was held the evening of June 10 and his Mass of Thanksgiving was celebrated there at Christ the King parish in Cabra on June 11, followed by another party.

Bishop Coffee expressed his regret that Archbishop Marino was unable to ordain Father Flood as planned, and his personal joy at ordaining a priest at his alma mater one year after becoming a bishop. The ordination booklet for Father Flood and a classmate asked for prayers for Archbishop Marino's recovery.
