Christ Our Hope's new worship area was dedicated Sunday, Aug. 2,
at the 10 a.m. liturgy. Monsignor John McDonough, vicar general, was the
principal celebrant. He was assisted by Father John Kieran, pastor, and priests
of the archdiocese.
Gifts presented at the offertory reflected the
extensive involvement of parishioners in making the new facility a reality. Joe
and Regina Cumbie brought to the altar a model of the plough used at the
groundbreaking. Cassandra and Alexandra Catroppa's offering of the new parish
directory represented the parish's growth to over 150 households since its
beginning in August, 1984.
Ellen Desmond presented a new altar chalice; David
and Jane Goodwin, musical instruments.
With his wife, Madeline, Ron Gauthier presented
one of the stained glass hangings he had created for the new building. Mary
Kemen, with her husband Bill, brought up one of the banners she has made for
the parish.
Ron and Jenny Taylor presented memorabilia
gathered by the building committee and Zelma Smith bore the parish scrapbook.
The worship area, consisting of the center wing of
the inverted T-shaped building, will seat 300. The extending wings of the
building house an administration area, food preparation area and seven
classrooms.
The congregation held their first Sunday Masses
there July 19. Two Masses will be held each weekend: one on Saturday at 5:30
p.m., the other at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
The church is located at 1786 Wellborn Road, a
half-mile south of Redan and one and a half miles north of Covington Highway.
