Parish Center Dedicated At Holy Trinity Church

Parish

Dedication of the new parish center and religious education building at Holy Trinity Church in Peachtree City took place on Saturday, Dec. 6, with Archbishop Thomas A. Donnellan officiating.

The 15,000 square-foot addition to the church contains 13 classrooms, with expansion space on the lower level for six more; a kitchen, large parish hall and three parish offices. The contemporary structure is of cinder block with stucco finish.

Father James H. Sexstone, pastor, said the building cost $720,000. A capital funds drive was held in the spring of 1985, he said, and $240,000 was pledged over three years for the addition.

Father Sexstone said the women’s guild of the parish raised over $6,000 for kitchen equipment, and the Men’s Club raised $1,000 for furnishing. Funds for a children’s nursery were raised by family, friends and professional associates of Dr. Al Stone, pediatrician and founding member of the parish, who died in 1984.

Ralph McCurdy served as building committee chairman. Gerald Deckbar, of Deckbar-McCormack Inc., was the architect.

There are 700 families in the parish with 600 children of pre-school through high school age enrolled in the religious education school.

Father Sexstone, who has been pastor since April, 1977, said the parish rented space in the McIntosh High School, right next to the church, and used the basement of the rectory for religious education before the new building was constructed.
