Archdiocesan Campaign Reaches Goal Of $7.2 Million

By Msgr. Noel C. Burtenshaw

It all began last September. The goal seemed almost impossible to many. But not to those who held on to the vision of success. This week reward came to all. The Campaign exceeded its goal of $7.2 million.

“It has been a wonderful effort,” said Rawson Haverty, chairman of the Campaign. “The work was furious and constant, but look at the reward.”

Slowly but surely the Campaign inched upwards over the past few months. Special gifts were given generously. Parishes reported successful meetings with parishioners. Needs were seen. The goal of $7.2 million was reached.

The bulk of the total amount will be paid over a period of three years. The funds pledged will finance four projects in the Archdiocese: a new addition to St. Pius X High School, a student center at Georgia Tech, extended care homes for the elderly and inner city scholarships. Campaign expenses are budgeted a $200,000.

“A victory celebration is a must,” says Rawson Haverty. “And we need to do it up good. Those who worked so hard to achieve this victory need to be recognized.”

The celebration will take place on Friday, Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in St. Pius X High School. Haverty promises a brass band to add atmosphere to this celebration. The parish chairpersons and their boards are being urged to attend.

The achievement certainly needs to be marked.
