New Principal For St. Paul Of The Cross

Sister Kathleen Purser, G.N.S.H., has been appointed principal of St. Paul of the Cross Elementary School, 551 Harwell Rd., N.W., Atlanta. She will take the place of Sister Bertha Sutton, C.S.J., who has been transferred to Pittsburgh, Pa.

Twenty-five years ago the community of the sisters of St. Joseph of Baden, Pa., opened St. Paul of the Cross School in conjunction with the new Passionist parish and foundation in northwest Atlanta. They have faithfully served in the school until the end of this silver jubilee year of its opening. The great shortage of personnel has forced this withdrawal.

Sister Kathleen served as principal of Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Atlanta for the past seven years. She was born in Buffalo, N.Y., and grew up in Atlanta, attending Christ the King Grade School and St. Pius X High School.

As a member of the community of the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart, she taught in their schools in Lowell, Mass., and Buffalo, N.Y., as well as in Atlanta. She studied at Teachers College, Columbia University, and at D’Youville College, Buffalo, N.Y. She has been Assistant-Director and Director of the Resident Camp for inner city children operated by the Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation from 1973 to 1976 and has served as a member of the Visiting Committee for the Clayton County Public School System. Sister Kathleen will assume her new duties at St. Paul of the Cross in August, as St. Paul’s concludes its Silver Jubilee year.
