Dedication Held At St. Gerard's

Parish

Archbishop Thomas Donnellan, recently celebrated the 10:30 Liturgy at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church in Fort Oglethorpe and blessed the two new buildings in the parish plant.

The new hall consists of a large social hall with all the facilities for parish social activities, plus six classrooms for religious education purposes. It is located on the south end of the parish property which fronts on Highway 27.

The new rectory, a white, ranch-type building located alongside the church, facing Highway 27, consists of a public section, chapel, foyer, parlor, offices and the private living quarters for the priests, consisting of two bedrooms, guest room and a community room opening out onto a deck in the back. Both buildings have been erected within the past year.

The blessing was well attended by members of the parish. Present also were Father Clement Tackney, CSSR., Redemptorist Vice Province; Fathers Raymond Govern, CSSR. of Tampa, Fla. and Eugene Helldorfer, CSSR, both former pastors of St. Gerard’s parish. After the blessing, a buffet was served by the Women’s Club of St. Gerard’s under the direction of Mrs. Mary Riley. Father Raymond Schantz, CSSR., is the present pastor of Saint Gerard’s, with Father John Jerlinski, CSSR., as associate pastor.
