New Addition For St. George's
|
Members of St. Georges Church in Newnan have broken ground for an addition to their present building. The immediate need is for classroom space for religious education since there are over 150 children attending Sunday School regularly. The addition will consist of two stories with eight classrooms downstairs and a larger hall and two more classrooms upstairs. When the work has been completed, the wall which now separates the present church and hall will be removed thus doubling the seating capacity of the Church. This step was foreseen in the 1969 construction and has saved the parish a considerable amount of money. The cost of construction including architects fees is not more than $217,000 with an additional $50,000 needed for the expansion and renovation of the existing church. Plans call for the work to be completed by September, 1979. Present for the groundbreaking ceremony were the members of the Parish Council headed by Taft Mansour, Sr.; the Building Committee with its Chairman, Rob Muzio; representatives of the Carrasco, Norman and Mansour families who originally formed the church; the contractor Bill Headley; the construction foreman Jim Rogers, and the pastor, Father John Lerhinan, CSSR.
