The Most Reverend Thomas A. Donnellan, Archbishop
of Atlanta has been named to serve on the Presidential Search Committee of the
Catholic University of America.
The Committee will make recommendations to the CUA
board of Trustees for a successor to Dr. Clarence Walton, who has announced his
resignation.
The Catholic University of America, located in
Washington, D.C. is the oldest Catholic graduate institution in the United
States. It presently comprises nine schools, five of which also offer
undergraduate degrees.
CUA has reversed the national trend in declining
private school enrollment by a 30 percent increase in enrollment over the last
five years. Additionally, it ranks among the top four academic institutions in
the nation whose graduates themselves become presidents of colleges and
universities.
Archbishop Philip M. Hannan of New Orleans will
chair the 15-member Presidential Search Committee, whose members represent a
broad cross-section of academic, religious and public life from across the
nation.
