|
Christ the King School welcomes Sister Jean Liston, a Grey Nun of the Sacred Heart, as new school principal. Sister Jean comes to Christ the King from Buffalo, New York where she was principal of Saint Rose of Lima School. She replaces Sister Mary Margaret OHara who was with the school eight years, first as teacher, then as principal. Sister Jean has a background which includes undergraduate work done at DYouville College in Buffalo, New York and at Lowell Technical Institute in Lowell, Massachusetts. Her major field was mathematics; graduate study at Temple University in Philadelphia and Canisius College in Buffalo in the field of Administration/Supervision and at State University of New York as Mathematics Specialist; nine years teaching in New York State, which included experience in every grade 1-8; Principal in Buffalo six years before coming to Christ the King, the last two years of which she was area supervisor for Grey Nun Schools. Sister Jean was speaker at Home & School meeting on Monday, October 4, in the Hyland Center. She gave a slide presentation on the teachers, their backgrounds, and special qualifications. In her talk she also mentioned several areas of special interest which she plans to start in the school which include a school newspaper, to be published five times a year, to be made up entirely of work by students; plans to start a national Junior Honor Society in which students are chosen on the basis of scholarship, leadership, citizenship and service, and a drama club. Sister Jean said the major emphasis in all subjects taught will be in teaching values. She believes every child can benefit from learning; that each child is unique. She believes the school should try to meet the needs of the child. A reception was held following the meeting for all parents to get a chance to meet and welcome Sister Jean. The Hyland Center was decorated attractively in a fall harvest theme. |
