CB Coffee Break in Dalton Nets $1,422 For Youth Home

A group of local Dalton CB’ers got together recently in the Rectory of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and decided they would like to sponsor a coffee break for the CB’ers to get to know each other better.

The end result was that Floyd Hedden, Emmett Wood, and Father Douglas Edwards came up with the idea of doing some charity work with their coffee break. A local charity organization, Georgia Sheriff’s Cherokee Estate, was selected.

Through the effort of Mr. Hedden and Mr. Wood of the Independent Carpet and Yarn Co., a CB Radio was donated to be used as a prize and donations were accepted.

St. Joseph’s became the scene of the coffee break and CB’ers from the Dalton area rallied to their support. Mrs. Hedden and Mrs. Wood supplied the cake and their personal touch to keep things moving.

A check for $1,422 was presented to Joseph Sheppard, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cherokee Sheriff’s Estate.

In expressing his appreciation to all who worked so hard to make this project a tremendous success, Mr. Sheppard pointed out that it was a most significant contribution and came at a significant time. Cherokee Estate will be increasing its capacity to care for 12 additional children in 1976 and the contribution will go a long way toward meeting the additional expenses involved in increasing the capacity by 50 percent.

“We owe a debt of gratitude to each of you who helped make the Coffee Break project possible,” he said. “Also a special thanks to the many young men and women who gave of their time and talents.”
