Dr. Howard M. McMahon of Our Lady of the
Assumption Parish assumes the duties of chairman of the Archdiocesan Board of
Education on July 1. Dr. McMahon was made chairman-elect last year.
Dr. McMahon has served on the Our Lady of
Assumption Board of Education for four years, three of them as chairman. He
joined the archdiocesan board in January 1974.
He is largely responsible for the improved budget
review procedure developed by the Archdiocesan Board of Education over the last
two years.
Dr. McMahon, professor of aerospace engineering at
the Georgia Institute of Technology, was graduated from the University of Santa
Clara and received his Ph.D. degree in aeronautics from the California
Institute of Technology.
The McMahons moved to Atlanta in 1964 and have
resided in Our Lady of the Assumption Parish. Howard and Fran McMahon have five
children.
Dr. McMahon succeeds Robert Reilman, who continues
to serve on the board as the immediate past chairman. The new chairman-elect is
Sister Mary Ann Mulligan, CSJ, who teaches music at Georgia State University.
