Seven Sisters Celebrate Silver Jubilee

Seven Sisters in the Atlanta Archdiocese are taking time to look back with community and friends to 25 years of Religious life. The celebrations center around Liturgy and receptions and memories that accumulate to 67 years of service to the Church of Atlanta.

Sister Kristen Lancaster, a Sister of Mercy of the Baltimore Province, came to St. Joseph Infirmary 20 years ago, where she is now assistant administrator. For 10 years she was director of the School of Nursing and also served as supervisor of nursing. Her interest in health care goes beyond profession to a special concern for the aged and for raising awareness about death and dying. Sister Kristen's many years of service here make her feel "close to the Church in Atlanta" and give her a feeling, too, of "tremendous gratitude" for her vocation to the Sisters of Mercy.

This "gratitude" has a chance to express itself in community involvement. Sister is part of a provincial-level committee on "Community in Service" and she is coordinator of the Sisters of Mercy at the hospital. She is on the Archdiocesan Vocation Commission and the Board of Education of Sacred Heart Parish. Her memberships in professional organizations include the National League for Nursing, American Nurses Association and the Georgia Nurses Association for which she is treasurer. Sister Kristen, whose home is St. Mary's City, Maryland, will celebrate her jubilee in May at St. Joseph's Infirmary and also at Sacred Heart Parish with Liturgy and a reception.
