All parishes in the archdiocese have now received their goal for
the Archdiocesan Charities Drive coming up March 2. As was the case last year,
the "goal" is in reality a target figure for which each parish is responsible.
As explained at last week's drive meeting, whatever is not raised on Drive
Sunday is to be provided from ordinary parish income.
Almost all parish goals are up this year over last
year. Commenting on this, William C. Crawford, chairman for the for this year's
drive, said "With the overall goal up 9 percent from $275,000 to $300,000, a
first step was simply to raise each parish by that 9 percent amount. However,
adjustments had to be made after that."
The Charities Drive, now in its sixth year, has
never missed making its goal. The first drive in March of 1968 had a goal of
$225,000. The amount has inched up gradually over the six years.
"The people's support of this one day cash effort
is really the main reason we keep repeating it," said Father Jerry E. Hardy,
chancellor of the archdiocese. "They have become accustomed to it and know it's
coming. I know people who put money aside as we get closer to the time for the
drive," he continued.
A full list of the parish goals is included inside
this issue.
