The clergy assignments for the archdiocese, announced this week by
Archbishop Thomas A. Donnellan, bring two new faces to Atlanta. Father Vincent
P. Brennan, S.M. and Father Michael J. Hovan, S.M. have been assigned to Our
Lady of the Assumption parish as pastor and assistant pastor.
Father Brennan last served in Atlanta in 1968 at which time he was
superior of the Marist Fathers and principal of Marist School. Since 1968 he
has served as dean of studies of the diocesan seminary in Lafayette, La. And in
1971 he went to the Marist high school seminary, Penndel, Pa. As dean of
studies. Father Brennan, 60, is a native of Boston and was ordained in 1941. He
earned his M.A. degree at Catholic University where he was associated with the
universitys department of speech and drama and then came to Atlanta as a
teacher at Marist School. In 1953 Father Brennan was named principal of the
school and in 1962 he was appointed superior and president.
Joining Father Brennan at Assumption is Father Michael J. Hovan,
S.M. Father Hovan, 27, is a native of Cleveland, Oh., where his parents still
reside. He received his B.A. degree from Catholic University, Washington, D.C,
in 1969 and completed his theological studies at St. Pauls College,
Washington. Father Hovan spent the past year serving as deacon at St. Matthias
parish in New Orleans. He was ordained on June 9th of this year in
Cleveland.
Remaining as associate pastor at Our Lady of Assumption is Father
Thomas A. Stokes, S.M. Previous associate pastors, Father Thomas Ryan and
Father Francis Keany, have been assigned to other duties. Father Ryan will
study in California and Father Keany has been assigned to St. Simons
Island in South Georgia. |
