Archbishop Donnellan Visits University Center

Archbishop Thomas A. Donnellan spent last weekend visiting the Newman Center at the University of Georgia.

The Archbishop arrived Saturday afternoon in time to attend the 34-0 homecoming victory of the Georgia football team.

Saturday night was highlighted by a reception held at the Center at which the archbishop met and talked with students and faculty members who dropped by.

Sunday, the archbishop spoke at the morning Masses and was on hand until mid-afternoon to talk with students and others coming o the Center. The Center's Pastoral Council came for lunch and a chance to talk at length with the archbishop.

The chaplain at the Georgia campus is Father Joseph Holohan, OFM. Father Holohan has been at the center for a little over two years. Also on the staff there are Father Larry Schulmeister, OFM, and Father Robert Madjsler, SJ. The center serves the student community primarily along with members of the academic and administrative arms of the university.
