Priests Join Baptists In Retreat Here

The archdiocese's Religious Unity Commission and the Southern Baptist Convention's Home Mission Board are cosponsoring a retreat for priests and ministers at the Trappist Monastery near Conyers.

The event will be held from 4 p.m., May 3 through noon May 5. It will include group singing, Bible study, worship, prayer, Masses, discussions and other activities designed to help participants get to know better each other and their separate faiths.

For the past two years, the Baptist board and the Catholic commission have sponsored a series of monthly Baptist-Catholic theological dialogues.

Father Matt Kemp, a commission member, said "a great spirit of understanding and brotherhood has grown up and come to maturity between Baptists ministers and Catholic priests" through these monthly meetings. "Now it is time for a new experience which will enable us to live, work and pray together … During that time, we hope to achieve a deepening appreciation for each other's traditions and spiritual life."
