Interfaith Welcomes St. Paul's Episcopal

Interfaith Inc., an ecumenical effort in which the Archdiocese of Atlanta participates to sponsor low- and moderate-income housing, has added St. Paul's Episcopal Church to its membership.

The corporation was involved in five projects over the year. The priority project is a site situated in DeKalb Avenue between Hampton Terrace and Southerland Terrace.

Interfaith has submitted a feasibility application to FHA for the development of 100 condominiums, homeownership units on the property and is awaiting a feasibility letter from FHA to begin construction.

John Steinichen, chairman, recommended that efforts be undertaken to increase the number of member churches to include more black churches, white Baptist churches, and other denominations. He also cited a need to include other related, nonprofit organizations in the membership.

As a nonprofit church-supported corporation, he said, Interfaith has continued to operate on a marginal basis, but there is a great need to increase financial resources up to 50 percent more than the income received last year. Interfaith is tax-exempt and all contributions are tax-deductible.

Horace H. Sibley, secretary, acknowledged the following churches and organizations which have been extremely helpful in financing Interfaith's operations in 1970: Cathedral of S. Philip, Trinity Presbyterian, Catholic Archdiocese, The Temple, Peachtree Presbyterian, Unitarian Congregationalist, The English Foundation and the Board of National Ministries of the Presbyterian Church of the U.S. Special tribute was also paid to other member churches, organizations and individuals who have supported Interfaith in various ways.
