Msgr. Kiernan Appointed Chiefs Chaplain

Msgr. R. Donald Kiernan, pastor of St. Jude’s Church in Sandy Springs and Chaplain of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, has been appointed to the office of Chaplain of the International Association of Chiefs of Police by Chief John R. Shyrock of Kettering, Ohio, President of the I.A.C.P.

The announcement of Msgr. Kiernan’s appointment was made by Chief Shyrock at the third Annual Conference of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police which met last week in Savannah.

The International Association of Chiefs of Police is an organization of more than 8,000 police chiefs in 64 countries of the free world.

This is the fifth time that Msgr. Kiernan has been appointed to this post. His first appointment came in 1964 when Atlanta Chief Herbert T. Jenkins was elected as the president of the International Association of Chiefs of Police. This was followed by appointments of Chief Phillip Purcell of Newton, Mass. in 1965; Chief William Morris of the Illinois State Police in 1966, and Chief Leonard Lawrence of Hamilton, Ontario in 1967.
