(The following resolution has been adopted by the directors of
Our Ladys Association for Exceptional Children.)
Whereas, Our Ladys Association for Exceptional Children
originally was organized for the purpose of assisting Our Ladys Day
School; and
Whereas, this purpose was later broadened to include help for
handicapped children, especially the mentally retarded and their parents, and
also to include investigating, fostering and encouraging activities which would
assist the Archdiocese of Atlanta in developing and maintaining facilities for
the care of handicapped children, and in promoting a deeper understanding of
the religious, social, and physical needs of these children; and
Whereas, Our Ladys Association has moved toward these goals
as a small group of interested people who have received support from friends
and other interested persons; and
Whereas, the restructuring of the Archdiocese of Atlanta as a
result of the 1966 Synod, and the decision to close Our Ladys Day School
produced within the Department of Catholic Social Services the Agency for
Exceptional Children; and
Whereas, the Agency for Exceptional Children provides, within
regular archdiocesan channels, formal means of advancing effectively towards
the goals for which Our Ladys Association was formed;
Therefore, resolved that Our Ladys Association for
Exceptional Children should and hereby does dissolve itself as a formal
organization, and asks that the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Atlanta
recognize this step which acknowledges the growing role of the Church of
Atlanta in this and other areas of social service; and
Resolved further that all funds remaining in the Association
treasury after settlement of obligations and equipment be presented to the
Agency for Exceptional Children for its work; and
Resolved further, that in terminating its existence, Our
Ladys Association for Exceptional Children hereby expresses its gratitude
to all its friends, associates and supporters who have made its work possible,
and in particular to its chaplains, to Sisters Marie Foley and Mary Simeon,
R.S.M., and to Miss Lorraine Zak.
