Cathedral School Seeks Accreditation

Christ the King School is seeking accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

An intensive two-year study was climaxed last week with the two day visit by seven members of the association.

An introductory dinner was held at Yohannan’s Restaurant in order that the school staff, administration and members of Christ the King School’s various organizations and committees might be afforded an opportunity to meet the members of the Visiting Committee.

After Monsignor Stapleton said the opening prayer, Mrs. Donna Egan, chairman of the school board, greeted all the guests then introduced the chairman of all the school committees.

Dr. Helen Westbrook, chairman of the Visiting Committee and principal of Barnett Shoals School then introduced the members who would take part in the April 7 and 8th evaluation of the school.

Those members were: Dr. Harold Dennis - Christ the King School Consultant on Accreditation; Mr. Russ Colombo - superintendent, Jefferson City Schools; Dr. Flo Hudson, - professor of education, Ga. State Univ.; Mrs. Nell Halford - curriculum director for 9th Educational District; Mr. Ephraim Frankel - principal of Hebrew Academy; Mrs. Doris McWilliams - supervisor of elementary education, DeKalb County; Mr. Marian Thompson - Johnson City project director; Mr. Mary Compton - professor of elementary education, Univ. of Ga.

Dr. Westbrook then briefly outlined the Visiting Committee’s plans for observing in the school and commented on thoroughness and excellence with which the self-study was done.

A preliminary report of the committee’s findings will be available by May 1st. The Southern Association meets in November to evaluate the committee’s report.
