St. Philip's Gets Constitution

Caught up in the spirit of Vatican II, the parish council of St. Philip Benizi’s Church in Jonesboro was faced with the task of coming up with a constitution that would engender the enthusiastic support of the parishioners.

After months of hard word, discussions, writing and revising, the task has been completed. Educational, social and financial projects have been outlined by the council. Parishioners will be asked in the next few weeks to set up committees to implement the new parish constitution and to assist the council.

Father Joseph Beltran, the pastor, was always there to direct, suggest and advise but, as one of the members of the council stated: “Father Beltran supports the conviction that the parish belongs to the parishioners and was there encouraging us to imbibe the spirit of the Vatican II and to take up the responsibilities that are rightfully ours as parishioners.”

The council meets regularly on the last Monday of every other month. The next meeting is scheduled for Jan. 26.
