Holy Name Pact Heads For Vote

Developments indicted the National Association of the Holy Name Society will be a reality in the near future.

Meetings of lay diocesan representatives held in Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Pittsburgh and St. Paul produced a tentative constitution which will be presented to archdiocesan and diocesan unions on the west coast.

The meeting will be held in San Francisco, October 17 & 18, 1969.

In November the Ad-Hoc Committee will meet with Holy Name representatives in New Orleans.

National officers will be elected in January, 1970 at a national convention after the temporary constitution is ratified and up-dated objectives are decided.

Father Larnen Brendan, national director, says “I know the programs and procedures of past Holy Name activities cannot satisfy the demands of the Catholic layman of today. For that reason do I stress unification, so that the enormous potential resources of Holy Name men, which are now being wasted, can be organized and put to practical use for the benefit of the Holy Name Society, for the furthering of the mission of the Church among men, and for the greater glory of God.”

Louis C. Fink of Atlanta, is head of the Ad-Hoc Committee.

Fink is a member of Sacred Heart parish in Atlanta, served one year as vice president of his parish Holy Name Society, and became special lay consultant of the national headquarters in New York City and lay editor of the “Holy Name Newsletter,” formerly the “Holy Name Journal.”
