Sister Melanie Leaves St. Joseph's Infirmary

Sister Mary Melanie, RSM, administrator of St. Joseph’s Infirmary, has completed her six years in the job and will be replaced July 1 by Sister Mary Brain, RSM.

Dr. Seymour Weinberg, chief of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, introduced the following resolution May 27 at a meeting of the Joint Conference Committee when it was announced that Sister Melanie was leaving:

“We, the Joint Conference Committee of St. Joseph’s Infirmary, wish to recognize and acknowledge the untiring efforts of Sister Mary Melanie toward the continuing improvements and resolving of the problems of St. Joseph’s Infirmary while performing as administrator of this hospital. We wish her continued health and happiness.”

Sister Melanie has established the following departments during the past six years:

  1. Social service department.
  2. Continuing education for employees.
  3. Day care center for employees’ children.
  4. Intensive Care Unit.
  5. Department of continuing care for patients after their hospital stay.
  6. Coronary Care Unit.
  7. Out-patient surgical service.
  8. She also has secured the appointment of an associate administrator, a layman, and the appointment of a full-time physician as chief of staff.
