Father Stathas Goes To Decatur

The Archdiocese of Atlanta gained another priest Saturday as Rev. John Stathas was ordained in Green Bay, Wis.

Father Stathas was ordained for the Diocese of Green Bay. However, at his request Bishop Aloysius Wycislo, Bishop of Green Bay, immediately granted Father Stathas a five year leave to work here.

Attending the ordination ceremonies in Green Bay were Fathers Jerry Hardy, Raymond Horan and Robert Kinast.

Father Stathas will be assigned to Saint Thomas More Church in Decatur and will arrive June 19.

Father Stathas graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1964 with a B.S. degree in sociology. He completed his seminary training at Saint Paul Seminary in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

While a student at Saint Paul’s, Father Stathas was actively involved in inner city programs. He also spent two summers working in Mississippi poverty areas.
