Father Clarke Opens St. Joseph's Series

St. Joseph’s Church in Marietta launched the first of its spring adult education series, “Christian Social Action Today,” with Father Aloysius Clarke, administrator of the Inner City Apostolate, as the guest speaker.

At the April 30 meeting, he emphasized the need to imitate Christ, not merely to admire him.

He said that the previous immersion of the church in moral theology of social issues and dogma has been supplanted by the emerging social awareness we see today in the Catholic Church.

More is required, however, he added. This social awareness must be activated by serving our neighbor, by seeking in our own area the less fortunate and meeting their needs economically, racially and emotionally.

Two other events are scheduled for the series: A panel discussion on “Witness Only The Layman Can Give,” led by Mrs. Lee Goldman on May 7, and a program by the Human Relations Council of Cobb County the following Wednesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Corbett of Marietta are cochairmen of the programs, which are held at 7:30 p.m. in the St. Joseph School library.
