What I Have Seen and Heard - Archbishop Gregory's Weekly Column

Print Issue: April 3, 1969

Fund Drive Tops Quarter Million

The reports of the Archdiocesan Charities and Development Fund Drive are still being made but it is hoped that next week the final report can be published.

The original goal was $225,000. The final report will show that over $250,000 was received.

Archbishop Donnellan expressed his gratitude for the warm response of the people to this one-day cash drive. “It was a great united effort,” said the Archbishop, “and the result shows this quite clearly.

“Our people responded in a most generous way and gave the effort this success. I want particularly, to express my gratitude to the parish chairmen and their workers.

Knocking on doors on a Sunday afternoon is not the most relaxing past-time. I am most grateful to them and especially to our priests who devoted themselves to his successful drive.”

Rawson Haverty, archdiocesan chairman of the drive, expressed his thanks for the cooperation he received from his counterparts in the parishes. “Their devotion to achieving success was the key and we are all grateful to them. The people responded magnificently,” he said.

Archbishop Donnellan is extending his thanks to every individual this week by mail.

The final report of each parish will be outlined next week.
