Five Franciscan sisters from Rochester, Minn., have come to
Atlanta to live and work in a neighborhood, Father James F. Scherer, director
of Catholic Social Services, announced.
Two of the nuns will attend Atlanta University, two will work in
the community and one is teaching biology at South Fulton High School.
The nuns are Sister Calan, who will be coordinator; Sister Laelia
and Loretta, students at Atlanta University; Sister Judith, the high school
teacher, and Sister Barbara.
Father Schereer said the nuns are making a double experiment.
They will see how five women can live in a community using a democratic
vote. They are also going to the parishes serving the area they live in (St.
Anthonys and St. Paul of the Cross) and will work with their neighbors to
solve problems.
The sisters, who live in a house, are wearing experimental habits,
Father Scherer said. |
