Fr. Chauve Marks 65th Anniversary

Father Constantin A. Chauve, S.M., will offer a Mass of thanksgiving Sunday, June 25, at Our Lady of the Assumption parish to commemorate the 65th anniversary of his ordination.

Father Chauve will say Mass at 12:45 p.m. and Father Vincent P. Brennan, S.M., will preach. A reception will be held in the school cafeteria immediately after Mass and a short program is planned at 2:30 p.m. with Father George J. Meiluta, S.M., serving as master of ceremonies.

Father Chauve, born in Lyons, France in 1878, was ordained in Washington, D.C. in 1902. The priest refers to his 65th anniversary as his “platinum jubilee.”

During his years in the priesthood, Father Chauve has been a soldier in the French army, college professor and parish priest. He has been decorated twice by the French government—once for valor in World War I and one for promoting French culture in America.

Now 89, Father Chauve, carries out his duties as priest in residence at the parish. He says Mass, preaches, distributes Holy Communion.

On the occasion of the 65th anniversary, he has received congratulatory messages from Archbishop Hallinan, Bishop Bernardin and from his Marist superiors.
