Holy Cross Favors One Parish Unit

Members of Holy Cross parish have voted to establish a single parish council and hold open meetings three times a year in January, May and September. The council’s formations will begin immediately.

In a parish meeting attended by approximately 200 adults Saturday night parish members also favored that the second building in the construction plan be the church building. An auditorium is now under construction.

Members of the parish voiced their feelings on ballots prepared by Father Eusebius J. Beltran, pastor, who also conducted a Bible service and spoke on the Christian’s identification with Christ through Baptisms. Father Beltran also discussed the development of the parish and building program. Tom Kelly spoke of tithing.

Dick Suever, president of the men’s council, and Romalee Moran, president of the Women’s Council, conducted the meeting.

Other subjects voted on include the time for daily Mass during Lent, and suggestions were made on how to assist the parish family to grow in charity.

Parishioners also had three choices on the parish building plans and the financial condition. The choices were 1) I want the original plans to be followed; 2) I would like to see the plans made more elaborate and substantial; 3) I would like to see the plans modified and made more modest.

A second question that drew numerous votes and comments was when finances permit us to proceed with the second building. I prefer the next building to be a) a classroom building; b) a multipurpose building; c) a church building. The church was favored.

Al Hogan, a delegate to the Lay Congress, reported on the planned establishment of a parish school board to consist of five members elected by parishioners and five members selected by the pastor. The board is to be formed in May.

Members of the parish also heard a report on the School of Religion from Sister Mary Joseph, coordinator.
