Chris Eckl Named Editor Of Paper

Christopher E. Eckl, newsman on the Associated Press Bureau in Atlanta, was named managing editor of The Georgia Bulletin this week by Archbishop Paul J. Hallinan. Mr. Eckl who succeeds Gerard Sherry in the post, will take over his duties Monday, May 30.

Mr. Eckl, a graduate in journalism of the University of Notre Dame, comes to the new position after ten years of experience in the newspaper field. He was reporter on the Annison and Huntsville papers in Alabama, and returned to his native city of Florence as city editor of the Florence Times. He established and edited the Alabama Sunday Magazine, a supplement for a number of Alabama papers before coming to Atlanta to serve on the Associated Press Bureau.

Among feature stories written by him, while in Atlanta was “Christmas -- Hardest Time of the Year in the Federal Pen” published in the Atlanta Journal in December 1965.

Mr. Eckl is a member of St. Anthony’s parish where he and his wife live with their family of four sons.

“Mr. Eckl will bring to the Archdiocese of Atlanta a fresh approach to Catholic journalism in this state,” Archbishop Hallinan said today. “His day to day handling of general news has given him a broad range of interests.”
