St. Pius High Places 5th In Literary Test

State competition in the AA class literary events took place last Friday. Five entries from St. Pius combined for 31 points. This merited a third place finish for the school.

Region first place winners were eligible for the contest. Senior Laura Carr, after her region victory, captured the state’s first in girls’ essay.

First place points also came from the debate competition. Junior, Thomas Nerney and sophomores, Thomas Carr, Raymond Warrell and Quinn Spitzer participated in this category.

Senior John Lorrain took second in the piano division. A third place finish went to the seniors for their showing in the spelling test.

Home Economics was the final school entry. Junior Patricia Errigo won the fourth place medal in this part of the meet.

Breaking down the 31 points, the debate team managed 12, Laura’s essay collected 7 and the spelling placement gave the school 6 more.

Five points went to John for the piano playing. Patricia’s home economics topic scored one point.

Mercer University in Macon hosted the one day AA meet.
