More than twenty four hundred visits to the sick and shut-ins of
the parish and 289 follow up telephone calls were among the 1,663 activities of
members of Sacred Heart Altar and Rosary Society, according to annual reports
submitted at the January meeting.
All members, working through different committees, combined to
keep the altar beautiful and the linens, vestments, and sacred vessels in
spotless and perfect condition throughout the year.
Contemplation of the Borgia family, St. Peter Chanel, Cardinals
Hayes and Mundelein, and the book, The Day Christ Died, was
practiced by the Study Club committee during the year. A visit by the group to
Holy Ghost Monastery included a talk by Father Luke on founding this order.
The spiritual development committee provided members of the Altar
Society for the adoration hours of First Fridays and for the Forty Hours
Devotion.
Speakers included Rev. Thomas J. Roshetko, S.M., who on separate
occasions spoke on the Sacred Liturgy of Holy Week and shrines visited in
Europe; Rev. Vincent P. Brennan, S.M., who spoke on Christian unity; and Father
Marian , O.F.M., who showed slides and spoke on his missionary work in Bolivia.
Projects of the ways and means committee, which raised over
$3,000.00 during the year to provide for the needs of the sanctuary and
sacristy, included the sale of a Christmas record, candles, Lenten folders, a
raffle and parish supper, and commission on a diary promotion.
New officers for 1964, installed by Father Roshetko at the 8:30
Mass Sunday are: Mrs. Robert M. Schnore, president; Mrs. J. C. Monaghan, first
vice president; Mrs. William A. Knapp, second vice president; Mrs. E. J.
Tuttle, recording secretary, Mrs. W. A. Peacock, corresponding secretary; Mrs.
Frank Schroer, treasurer; Mrs. Leo G. Maurer, auditor; Mrs. Millard Norris,
parliamentarian; Mrs. C. S. Peak, historian. directors will be Mrs. Grogan
Beall, Mrs. U. S. Haisten, Mrs. George M. Gardner, Mrs. E. S. Capral, Mrs. L.L.
